Does hypnosis work?
That is a question that dates back hundreds of years. Evidence of hypnotic techniques date back to the Egyptians and their healing temples. Then there was Franz Mesmer who brought us ‘animal magnetism’ in the 1700’s. However it wasn’t until James Braid, a prominent physician in the 1800’s who adopted hypnosis in surgery. To this day there are people who can undergo surgery (minor) or dentistry, without the need of an anaesthetic.
